The first operational section covers 12 stations between Maan and R K Laxman Museum in Balewadi. The nearly 8-km stretch received approval from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) on July 23, allowing it to start passenger operations. PMRDA officials said the stations are ready and are being continuously monitored before the launch.

Review of the Work to be Done by the End of this Week

PMRDA Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari said a review of the completed work is scheduled for the end of this week. Officials are checking the remaining small tasks to ensure that the line is ready for passengers. If everything goes as planned, services could begin shortly after the inauguration.

Officials are also working to extend passenger services beyond the first 12 stations. Five more stations are expected to undergo CMRS inspection soon. If these stations receive safety approval, metro services could be extended to 17 stations. The remaining portion towards Shivajinagar will open after completing all necessary safety checks and obtaining the required clearances.

How will this Pune Metro Line 3 Benefit Passengers?

Metro Line 3 is a 23.3-km elevated corridor that will eventually connect Hinjewadi's major IT hub with Shivajinagar, and it will have 23 stations. The project is expected to provide a faster and more convenient travel option for thousands of IT employees and other commuters who currently face heavy traffic on the Hinjewadi route. The metro trains on this corridor are designed to operate at speeds of up to 80 kmph. Trial runs are currently being conducted as officials prepare for the launch.

Once operational, Metro Line 3 is expected to reduce travel difficulties and traffic congestion between Hinjewadi and central Pune.
