Mangaluru-Chennai Weekly Special Train: Southern Railway to Handle the Passenger Rush during Onam Season

Southern Railway has announced a weekly special train between Mangaluru Central and Chennai Central to provide additional travel options during the Onam festive season and to handle the expected rise in passenger demand between Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Mangaluru-Chennai Weekly Special Train

Train No. 06127 Dr MGR Chennai Central-Mangaluru Junction Weekly Express Special will operate from Chennai Central on August 21 and August 28, 2026.
The train will depart from Dr MGR Chennai Central at 11:50 PM and reach Mangaluru Junction at 5 PM the following day.

The return journey will operate as Train No. 06128 Mangaluru Junction-Dr MGR Chennai Central Weekly Express Special. This train will depart from Mangaluru Junction at 7:15 PM on August 22 and August 29, 2026.

Mangaluru-Chennai Weekly Special Train Major Stoppages & Features

The special train will stop at several important stations along the route. These include Perambur, Arakkonam, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Podanur, Palakkad, Shoranur, Tirur, Kozhikode, Vadakara, Thalassery, Kannur, Payyanur, Nileshwar, Kanhangad and Kasaragod, before reaching Mangaluru Junction.

The special train will have 22 coaches to accommodate more passengers. Its composition includes one AC 2-Tier coaches, two AC 3-Tier coaches, 12 Second Class Sleeper coaches, 4 General Second Class coaches, two luggage-cum-brake van coaches.

The additional service is expected to benefit passengers travelling between Mangaluru, parts of Kerala, & Chennai, particularly during the busy Onam season. With demand for railway tickets usually increasing during the festival period, the weekly special will provide additional capacity and another option for passengers planning their journeys.
