The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has closed 18 metro stations across central Delhi from Saturday morning due to heightened security arrangements amid ongoing student protests near Jantar Mantar. The restrictions, now in their fourth consecutive day, are expected to affect thousands of daily commuters and increase pressure on road transport.
Delhi Metro Stations to Remain Closed Today
According to the DMRC, the stations will remain closed from 7:30 am on Saturday until further notice. Entry and exit have been suspended at Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium, Jhandewalan and New Delhi metro stations.
However, passengers can still use interchange facilities at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat stations. While commuters will not be able to enter or leave these stations, they can change metro lines at these interchange points.
The security measures have been put in place as authorities expect large crowds during the weekend because of the continuing student protests over the alleged NEET paper leak. Police have increased security across central Delhi to maintain law and order.
Advisory for Delhi Metro Commuters
The metro restrictions have affected travel in many busy parts of the city, especially around Connaught Place and nearby government offices. Authorities have not announced when the stations will reopen and said the restrictions will remain in place until further instructions.
However, DMRC has advised passengers to check travel updates and plan their journeys. With several key stations closed, many commuters, including office workers, students and lawyers, are facing inconvenience and are being forced to use buses, taxis and other road transport options.
Commuters are advised to follow official updates from the DMRC and traffic authorities before starting their journey, as the security arrangements and metro operations may change depending on the situation.
