Patna Metro Construction Work: Patna Metro's Underground Tunnelling on Corridor II has been Completed

The Patna Metro project has reached an important stage, with 7.4 km of underground tunnelling completed on Corridor II. The underground section is 7.8 km long and runs between the Malahi Pakri Ramp-Rajendra Nagar and Akashvani stretches.

The remaining civil construction work on this section is expected to be completed by October 2026. After the civil work is finished, teams will begin laying metro tracks and installing overhead electrical (OHE) cables and signalling systems. The underground section will have six stations: Rajendra Nagar, Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, University, PMCH, Gandhi Maidan and Akashvani.

Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitish Mishra said the Patna Metro project is progressing quickly, with work continuing on both underground and elevated sections. The project is being developed in phases to create a modern, safe and efficient public transport system for the city.

Patna Metro's Blue Line

The 6.2-km priority corridor, also known as the Blue Line, between Patliputra Bus Terminus (ISBT) and Malahi Pakri, is already operational. It has five stations: Patliputra ISBT, Zero Mile, Bhootnath, Khemnichak and Malahi Pakri. Khemnichak is currently a pass-through station and is expected to become operational in November 2026. This priority section forms part of the 14.5-km Corridor II, which connects Patna Junction with New ISBT.

Work is also progressing on the elevated sections of Corridor I, or the Red Line. The 3.1-km Khemnichak-Mithapur stretch and the 3.2-km Rukanpura-Danapur stretch have completed their viaducts. Station construction and finishing work are currently underway. The Khemnichak-Mithapur section is expected to open next year.

Meanwhile, construction has started on the 10.5-km underground Mithapur-Rukanpura section along Nehru Path. It will have six stations: Patna Junction, Vidyut Bhawan, Vikas Bhawan, Patna Zoo, Raja Bazaar and Rukanpura.

The completion of the 7.4-km tunnelling work marks another major step towards expanding Patna's metro network.
