This garden was established in 1878 and was named after William Llyod, who was an owner of a bank during the time of British India. The Llyod botanical garden was built by acquiring 40 acres (160,000 m²) of land in Darjeeling. And the land was provided by William Lloyd.
This garden built in three parts was built under the leadership of Sir George King. In which the upper most section displyas the varaities of himalayan plants. the middle section houses conifer and alpine trees along with ferns. and the third section is famous for having exotic plants brought here from different parts of the world.
