Residents in several parts of Tamil Nadu will experience a temporary power shutdown on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 9 a.m. due to scheduled maintenance work. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has announced the areas where electricity supply will be suspended.

Tamil Nadu Power Cut on 27 August: List of Areas to be Affected
Coimbatore
Several areas in Coimbatore district will face a power cut from 9 am to 4 pm. The affected areas include Irumbara, Pethikuttai, Samparavalli, Kavundampalayam, Vaiyalipalayam, Iluppanatham, Anathasampalayam, Akkara Sengapalli, Vadakkalur and Mookkanur.
Areas supplied by the Angalakurichi substation will also be affected. These include Angalakurichi, Pongaliur, Sethumadai, Topslip, Parambikulam, Paramadaiyur, P.N. Noor, M.G. Noor, Somanthurai Chittur, N.M. Sungam, Aliyar, Nanjanayakkanur, Kottur, Thensangampalayam, Kambalapatti and Ceylon Colony.
Mayiladuthurai
In Mayiladuthurai district, power supply will be affected in Porayar Town, Thillaiyadi, Sathanur, Tharangambadi, drinking water project areas, Sankaranpandhal, Thirukkadaiyur, Sembanarkoil, MRM, Poompuhar, Manikkagramam, Akkur and Thiruvali.
Ariyalur
In Ariyalur, affected locations include V.R. Pettai, Agaram, Nagampandal, Periyakarukkai, Chinnathukurichi, Melavallam, Kanguli, Kulathur, Pookkuzhi, Vallam, Ayyur, Iravangudi, Nallur, Kaduvetti, Melanikuzhi and Power Grid areas.
Virudhunagar
Several areas in Virudhunagar will also face interruptions, including Mallanginru, Valayankulam, Alagiyanallur, Kappilingampatti, Nagampatti, Pandian Nagar, Alagai Nagar, P.S.K. Nagar, Malaiyadipatti, Sankarankovil Junction, Tenkasi Road, Government Hospital area, Sattirapatti and Mottamalai and surrounding areas.
Why is a power cut carried out?
The regular maintenance work is carried out to ensure a stable and uninterrupted power supply. During these works, electricity department employees undertake activities such as repairing minor faults, maintaining power lines, and removing tree branches that may interfere with electrical infrastructure. Residents are generally informed about such planned outages in advance.

Residents are advised to keep their mobile phones fully charged and use power-saving mode during the outage. It is also better to avoid using lifts during a power cut and keep emergency contact numbers, drinking water, snacks, and a first-aid kit ready.
