Bageshwar is a religious town situated at the confluence of the two rivers, Saryu and Gomti. Legend has it that the Hindu Lord Shiva, once wandered in the region as a tiger. The religious town is mentioned in Hindu mythology.
The place is located at a distance of about 28 km from Kausani and attracts a large number of tourists every year. The town is surrounded by the mountains, Bhileshwar and Nileshwar, on two sides. A fair known as Uttarayani is organised in the region every year and is a major draw.
