Korlai Fort, Chaul

4

The Korlai Fort is famously known as the Morro or Castle Curlew. It was constructed by the Portuguese in the town of Korlai, on the island of Morro de Chaul, that is the village of Chaul, in 1521 – almost 500 years back.

The fort resembles the Chaul fort and is strategically built from Korlai to Bassein to defend their rule. It was built to guard the route to the Revdanda Creek. The fort is famed to be one of the best forts in the entire world and accomodated close to 7000 horses and an equal number of men in its heyday.
