The chief claim to fame of Dewa or Dewa Sharif is that it houses the shrine of Haji Waris Ali Shah, a famous Sufi saint who believed in the concept of ‘universal love for humanity.’ The shrine is an extravagant monument that was erected in his memory.
It is said that the saint died at the same spot where the monument was erected. He was buried there, and his followers eventually built the shrine to keep his memory alive. The scarcely populated town is a quiet, peaceful destination.
